The French Press Project Take 2

So I came up with that idea of the French Press Project. Now you want to ask me what that is, right? Let me tell you: I basically grew up with three different kinds of coffee-making at home. My dad is not as huge a coffee addict as I am but he definetly also has it going for the hot caffeine. We have never been the fancy coffee-machines kind of people, we prefer the “older” but better way of making coffee. The french press is said to be the best method to get the most out of your coarse grind coffee but I#ll come to that later.

The most common coffee making method I come across when I am at home is the Moka Pot. It also produces quite a strong brew and fuels you up in the morning. Where some might still be preferring drip coffee, the moka pot method is more effieciently extracting caffeine and flavor from the grounds – but that choice is up to you.

So now what is it with the French Press?

The French press goes by various names around the world. In Italy the press is known as a caffettiera a stantuffo. In New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa the apparatus is known as a coffee plunger, and coffee brewed in it as plunger coffee. Its French name is cafetiΓ¨re Γ  piston, though French speakers also use genericized trademarks, notably Melior or Bodum. In the UK and the Netherlands the device is known as a cafetiΓ¨re, the French word for coffee maker or pot. In the United States and Canada, it is known as a French press or “coffee press”.

The grind has to be coarser than for a drip brew coffee filter. Coffee is brewed by placing it and hot water together, stirring it and leaving to brew for a few minutes, then pressing the plunger to trap the coffee grounds at the bottom of the beaker.

My first cup of press coffee really im-pressed me…strong, robust and with all the flavors that get lost if you make your coffee a drip coffee.

So what I will do the next weeks is this: I will taste myself through various kinds of press coffee and compare them to various kinds of cappuccino for example and drip filter coffees and I will write about it.

What’s the best coffee for different kinds of people? How can the strength of coffee influence your health and is press coffee healthier than drip coffee?

I will test types of coffee grinders for your home and dive into all the kinds of roasts there are…

Have a good one today and drink responsibly πŸ˜‰
